DARE Essay

Just to keep you updated!  Emily won second place in her school for her DARE essay that she wrote.  She got called up at her DARE graduation.  Since we are in DODEA school systme vs public schools.  The government schools takes more time teaching the kids about the dangers of drugs, alcoholism, bullying, being a true friend, puberty classes.  She was in a 12 week program that taught her how to say no and she can recognize every drug that is on the streets.  I began boo-hooing as they asked her to read her essay to the school.  I was nervous for her.  It was hard to sit there and listen to it knowing that I put her in that sitaution with her biological father.  I could have prevented it.  This is something I will never forgive myself over.  Bad things happened that only “CLOSE” family knows about and God.  I am proud of her.  Here are a couple of picts from graduation day.

Fitness week #3

Well I am going into week 3 of “Your Fitness” training with my 2 personal trainers.  I see them 3 days a week for 2 hours at a time.  The first hour is intense cardio and the second hour is yoga and pilates combined.  I am also walking 5 miles a day 5 days a week.  I love it!  It feels great to not be able to move and have every muscle in your body screaming at you to STOP!!!!!  This has just been hard on me phisically since that car accident 3 years ago.  ( I got rear ended from 2 cars at a dead stop between 45 & 50 mph.  My hips are off balance now, my sacrum bone shifts out of place which is causing numbness down my legs and feet and tremors in my hands where they close by them selves when its all acting up bad).  So this has been a journey where I am biting my tongue hard and doing it regardless cause my health is more important than the physical pain.  I want to be able to run a 5K with Kris when he gets home from Iraq.  He is proud that in 2 weeks I am running 1 mile in 15 minutes.  Yes that sounds like a crappy time but take in consideration the problems I have had since the accident.  Trust me there is lots of praying going on with every pound of the pavement that I take.  It hurts!  I’m determined though!  Oh and I have already gone down 2 sizes in 2 weeks so that is a HUGE plus!  Mother look out when I come home for the summer your @ss is going to get in gear too with me………

Emily won an award for this essay below….

D.A.R.E.
By: Emily Lindsay
What is D.A.R.E.? That is what people ask themselves… Well D.A.R.E. is Drug Abuse Resist Education. What Mrs. Hastings fifth grade class learned this year is to know how to say no to drugs! That is what DARE is about.  Then we learned what drugs could do to you. It makes you sick in your mind as well as your body and it changes who you are and what you do.  I have learned a valuable lesson first hand about drugs and I know what it does to people and family. I have a blood relative who is a drug addict. I have cut all ties off from that person.  That somebody was very abusive to my older brother and me when I was three and my brother was 6 years of age.  It hurt me deeply down in my heart. I know how it feels to get hurt by drugs and how others feel that have been hurt the same ways I have been hurt by drugs. The person that I know is a great person somewhere deep down inside. They have gotten lost because of drugs.  Knowing that he is in a drug rehab center might help him. Who knows?  He has been in and out of jail for the past eight years, most of my life. He steals from people to get money for the drugs and he steals from his family. That is what other people do too to get drugs too. That becomes their pattern in life.  The person is usually so addicted to drugs that they never know how bad it affects them, their family, and friends around them. Officer John Ricker is the best D.A.R.E. Teacher ever!  He made us all laugh while he was teaching.  He truly is the best teacher on the subject of D.A.R.E.! This is my story and this is why I pledge to stay DRUG FREE forever!
